Being a member of the Arlington County Police Department is much more than a job, it’s a passion. We invite you to join us today.
The Arlington County Police Department was formed in 1940 with nine members protecting and serving the community. The County and Department have grown dramatically since, with 360 sworn personnel and 100 professional staff serving at ACPD today.
Arlington County, an “urban village” of approximately 26 square miles located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., is both a residential community and a major employment center. The County’s permanent population is currently in excess of 210,000 residents, which increases by more than 25% during the workday with the influx of commuters. Arlington County is home to landmarks such as the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington National Airport as well as the Iwo Jima and USAF memorials. Arlington County is also home to the Washington Capitals practice facility.
The Arlington County Police Department has adopted a geographic-based policing philosophy, comprised of three districts. Officers will be responsible for most police services provided to the community to include response to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, preliminary criminal investigations, special event planning and school liaison. Members of ACPD also work on a regular basis with our state, regional and federal law enforcement partners.
Our mission is the reduction of the incidence of crime and the improvement of the quality of life in Arlington County by making it a place where all people can live safely and without fear.
